Biography
Dr Kim Lohlun is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred cancer care. She values clear communication and collaborative decision-making, ensuring each patient feels supported and informed throughout their treatment experience.
Dr Kim Lohlun is a radiation oncologist at Bowen Icon Cancer Centre, offering in-person and telehealth consultations at Crest Hospital in Palmerston North and treatment services in Wellington.
Dr Lohlun completed her specialist radiation oncology training in South Africa in 2009 and went on to work across major public hospitals in Johannesburg and Pretoria. She obtained a Master of Medicine in Radiation Oncology in 2013, with her research on the impact of radiotherapy waiting times for cervical cancer published in the South African Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. From 2015 to 2019, she ran her own practice before relocating to New Zealand with her family.
Since relocating to New Zealand, Dr Lohlun has worked as a specialist radiation oncologist at Palmerston North Hospital, including serving as Director of Training. She has been actively involved in international clinical trials and multidisciplinary cancer care, further strengthening her expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate care. Dr Lohlun has extensive experience teaching and supervising trainees, supporting registrar education, lecturing medical students and contributing to academic and clinical governance forums.
Dr Lohlun has experience across a wide range of cancer types and modern radiotherapy techniques, including external beam treatments (3D-CRT, IMRT, VMAT), respiratory-gated therapy, superficial (electrons and orthovoltage) treatments, advanced SABR for brain and body, and LDR prostate brachytherapy.
