Accessing information and support at any time, from when you receive your diagnosis, through to your treatment and beyond can be beneficial for both you and your loved ones. It is important to remember you are not alone, and speaking to people who know what you are going through can be extremely helpful.
The following are just a few of the many exceptional cancer agencies that offer a range of support services. Talk to your treatment team about what options might suit you, your life and your type of cancer.
Cancer Society NZ offer a wide-range of support services including information, advice, counselling and education groups, transport and accommodation options, and practical assistance for those with cancer. Bowel Cancer New Zealand is dedicated to supporting people with bowel cancer and their families through providing information and practical support. Registered nurses are available 24 hours a day via email to support you with any cancer-related queries at here4you@bowelcancernz.org.nz.
Breast Cancer Aotearoa Coalition is a national organisation that works to ensure New Zealanders affected by breast cancer receive world-class care and information and support appropriate to their individual needs.
Breast Cancer Foundation NZ provides a wide range of support services to people affected by breast cancer. They offer a helpline where you can speak with specialist breast care nurses and provide free counselling, breast cancer-specific exercise classes and useful information for people with breast cancer and their families. Breast Cancer Support is a national charity that specialises in providing peer support services for women with breast cancer, offering support groups, individual visits and a 365-day help line. Tel: 0800 273 222
Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC) is the national charity dedicated to supporting patients and their families living with blood cancers (leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and myeloproliferative neoplasms – MPNs) and serious blood conditions. LBC is committed to improving the quality of life for our patients and their families/whānau. LBC provides individualised support to patients and their whanau, runs support programmes for adults and children, facilitates education sessions, and provides emergency financial assistance. Melanoma New Zealand is dedicated to raising awareness of melanoma and skin cancer prevention. The organisation supports melanoma patients and their families by providing access to information and resources, support services and melanoma information advisors. Tel: 0800 463 526
Prostate Cancer Foundation NZ supports people affected by prostate cancer. They run several support services across New ZeaLAND including group meetings, phone support, and information for patients and their families. Tel: 0800 477 678
